When I started my transition from serial entrepreneur to social entrepreneur and social business mentor over 12 years ago Anita Roddick, of the global sensation Body Shop, was my “Shero”. I fancied myself as an entrepreneur activist much like Anita Roddick who used her social business as a force for good and environmental change. The concept of using business as a force for good in the world was new. Monetizing your purpose into a social impact business was still unheard off. (At least as far as Google was concerned.)
Since then social entrepreneurship has exploded into an exciting new economy. I’ve gone on to become a multi-best selling author, and in 2018 I was awarded the “Iconic Woman Creating A Better World Award” for my role in idea incubating and helping launch over 1,009 social impact businesses globally as The Mission Mentor and founder of The Mission Mastery Academy For Changemakers.
We’re living in exciting times where purpose driven businesses are becoming mainstream. Where the majority of the market want’s the people and brands they buy from to give them a sense of purpose, greater contribution and assurance that we are becoming socially active in our businesses, not just relegating social good policy to donating to charity. It’s not enough any more. As social entrepreneurs selling products, services or programs we now need to be exchanging “Social Capital” if we want to maximize our market share.
